SELLING AT AUCTION
Selling at auction is simple. We happily appraise all items with no obligation. We will then give you an estimate – a likely price range you can expect. If you wish to go ahead and list it for the auction we will help you set a reserve if appropriate.
Our commission is 20% + VAT of sale price. This is a flat fee with NO extra charges. Your lotting, photography, advertising and insurance are ALL covered.
All items are then photographed and displayed with the greatest care, as well as being entered onto our optimised online catalogue which reaches a global audience of collectors and dealers – we want to get the best possible result for you.
After auction we will update you with your sale results and you will receive payment (less 20% + VAT) within 14 working days after the auction by bank transfer.
Payments are accompanied by an itemised statement as so many sellers list multiple items with us. In the event of a non-sale we would then discuss either collection of item or resale.
Thirty years of selling antiques has given us the experience to make this a simple, profitable and enjoyable experience for you!
BUYING AT AUCTION
Buying at auction is also simple.
Before the auction:
Follow us on facebook! Many of the treasures will be featured as a sneak peek of what’s coming up.
We are open to view for the 2 days prior – come browse for your treasure in advance! We stay open for late night viewing – til 7pm – on the Wednesday and Thursday.
On the day – how to bid!
This is where it gets exciting! Auctions start at 9.30am sharp, we open the doors for last viewing and to register to bid at 9am. Come in early – you will be assured of a warm welcome.
To register to bid simply pop up to the counter, provide your contacts details and we will give you your bidding number card. You can register to bid at any point during the day.
Take a seat (usually it’s standing room only!) in the sale room. When your treasure comes up signal the auctioneer with your number card – and you are in to win!
There are several other ways to bid for items :
- We do it for you (“by commission bid”). If you can’t be there in person but you have your eye on something – you can leave your maximum bid with us and we will endeavour to buy it on your behalf as cheaply as possible. The bidding does not start at the price you indicate. You can leave these bids in person prior to the sale, by email or by phone.
- Bid Online. We are featured on leading auction site the-saleroom.com which makes it easy for you to follow the auction live, place bids in real time, and enjoy the action where ever you are. Just click on our “Live Bidding” link and you are in!
- Phone bidding. Is a convenient option for many of our overseas and out of town collectors who wish to be part of the bidding live. Please arrange this with us in advance of auction day.
Payment
If you are the lucky winner of your item(s) take 20 minutes to celebrate with a coffee as we process the sale for you. Then head on over to the counter to pay. If you won the item through an online or phone bid please ensure you pay within 3 days. We accept payment by cash, debit/credit card or bank transfer.
You will pay the “hammer price” plus 20% + VAT buyers commission. There no extra fees – this is a flat fee – so super easy for you to factor into your bidding action!
